  • fake moss
  • small sticks for the ladder
  • utility knife

How to Make a Pumpkin Fairy House

Your first step is to carefully cut holes for the door and windows with a utility knife. Don’t worry about the openings being perfect because you can hide any gaps or imperfections with the moss later.

Once you cut the openings, use hot glue to secure the door and windows. Again, don’t worry about perfection because the moss will hide any excess glue or gaps.

TIP: I laid the pumpkin on its side while the glue around the door was drying. The door is actually heavier than I expected, so having it lie flat on top of the pumpkin keeps it from sliding around. Because the pumpkin isn’t flat, I bunched towels around it to keep it from tilting or rolling.

Once the glue around the door and windows is dry, use more hot glue to add moss. I used two different types of fake moss to give it a more natural look.

Finally, I picked up some small twigs from our yard and cut them into pieces. I glued them together to make a little ladder leading to the door. I added more moss around the base of the pumpkin to make it feel like it’s sitting on the forest floor.
