Friday Finds: Things to Read, Watch, and Check Out

One of my favorite things about spring is all the flowers. I jumped at the chance to visit the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park a few weeks ago while the cherry blossoms were in peak bloom. It was a beautiful sunny day and the trees were gorgeous. I’m so glad I had the chance to experience the fleeting beauty of the garden.

Things to Check Out

I stumbled upon these Laurence King puzzles as I wandered through Barnes & Noble this week and I think I need to get one. The World of Agatha Christie looks like a fun option.

Remember all the unique hobbies and talents that came up during the Pandemic? A post popped up last week that reminded me of the beautiful Foccacia garden trend. (NY Times gift link)

The Lazy Genius got me hooked on this vintage account that does weekly online sales: https://www.instagram.com/every.so.often.gso/

This fun Kansas children’s museum features exhibits that bring to life popular children’s stories like Caps For Sale, Blueberries For Sal, and Goodnight, Moon.

Until recently it had been years since I went into a Gap (when did it stop being The Gap??) but I finally did and now I’m living in these Girlfriend Jeans.

What I’m Reading

I finished Ann Patchett’s Tom Lake this week and I absolutely loved it. Patchett is such an excellent storyteller and I found this book to be so comforting and relaxing to read. I’m tempted to listen to the audio version, narrated by Meryl Streep, to enjoy this story in her voice. Meryl would be an excellent choice for the older Lara in a movie adaptation.

I almost always have two books going at once, one in print and one on Audible. This week I listened to The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica. I thought the story was great with a great twist, but I didn’t love the voice of the primary narrator 😬 I kicked the speed to 1.25 and that helped. Otherwise, it’s a solid thriller.

What I’m Watching

I finished season 2 of The Bear and am excited that I only have to wait until June for season 3. While this show can be pretty intense, I do enjoy it.

I’m eagerly anticipating season 3 of Bridgerton, due on May 16!
